Have you noticed that oil has started to drip under your Honda or that the oil level is slowly but surely decreasing? These are both telltale signs that you may be dealing with an oil leak. However, don't worry! By diagnosing the issue early you can save yourself from costly repairs down the road.

Worn Gaskets and Seals

Honda is known for being a reliable car and that can be said for its parts as well. However, over long periods of time with the use of your Honda you may notice that the gaskets and seals may erode. This degradation can cause leaks around the valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, and more. It's a good idea to inspect these components for signs of wear and tear such as cracks and brittleness to help reduce the chances of a leak.

Loose or Damaged Oil Drain Plug

The oil drain plug is used to seal the oil pan, preventing it from leaking. In the case that this component is damaged or loose, oil may start to seep out. If this component is loose simply retighten it and if it's damaged replace the component.

Faulty Oil Filter

The oil filter in your vehicle helps to capture potentially harmful waste and removes it from the motor oil of your Honda. In the case of the filter being damaged or incorrectly installed, oil can spill past the filtration system and leak out. By regularly inspecting this component and replacing it when needed, you can help prevent oil leaks.

Cracked Engine Components

If components of the engine such as the block or sender head become damaged, this can result in oil leaks. These cracks can happen naturally over time because of erosion, physical damage and even overheating during the summer time. If you think that a cracked engine component is causing the leak, it's best to bring it into our shop to have it inspected and repaired by one of our talented technicians.
